Fort Stanton, New Mexico

Fort Stanton (red star) is located about 3 hours north of El Paso, Texas and 3 1/2 hours south of Albuquerque, New Mexico. 

From El Paso, go north on US Hwy 54 to US Hwy 70 and follow that east to Ruidoso. Continue through Ruidoso on NM Hwy 48 to Rt. 220 (Airport Road). Go past the airport and turn left at the stop sign. A few minutes later you're in Fort Stanton!

From Albuquerque, take I-25 south to US Hwy 380 east. Between the towns of Capitan and Lincoln, turn right on Rt. 220. A few miles down the road is Fort Stanton!

Plentiful lodging is available in Ruidoso (follow the El Paso directions backwards to Ruidoso), Lincoln, and Capitan. Restaurants can be found in Ruidoso, Carrizozo, Capitan, and Lincoln. Currently, no lodging or food is available in Fort Stanton itself.
