Fort Stanton, New Mexico

Building A: Commanding Officer's Quarters
Built: 1877

This building, which replaced a ca. 1855 building, with one original outbuilding is the best preserved of all the historic buildings at the fort. The front porch was enclosed by 1904, but the original front door with side lights and transom are still intact. This was the quarters for Lt. John Pershing and Major Nathan Dudley, but Kit Carson resided in the 1855 building.
